Mediation

Lawyer and Mediator in Glastonbury, Connecticut

Over 25 Years of Experience

At the office of attorney Sharon M. Friel, we have over 25 years of experience in family law mediation, helping men and women throughout Hartford County and the surrounding area resolve family law matters without the financial and emotional costs of a trial. We believe that husbands divorce their wives, and vice versa, but that parental relationships need to be preserved, even after divorce. We encourage clients to consider mediation as a way to cooperatively come to solutions that will be in everyone's best interests over the long term.

To learn how you can benefit from family law mediation, contact our office online or call us at 860-266-4345 (toll-free at 1-866-907-0239) to set up a free initial consultation.

Extensive Experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution

We offer considerable experience to clients who choose mediation as a way to reduce conflict, manage costs, and obtain some degree of control over the outcome of a dispute. Attorney Friel has extensive litigation experience and is also a trained arbitrator with experience deciding a broad range of civil matters, including contract and construction disputes, as well as personal injury matters. She also serves as a Special Master in family law cases, listening to cases from other lawyers and making suggestions or recommendations regarding how to resolve those cases.

Helping You Decide if Mediation is Best for You

If you decide to pursue mediation, we will help you prepare, fully explaining how it works, what your rights are and how best to use the process to get the results you want. We will also act as a "review lawyer," analyzing proposed agreements and making certain the terms accomplish your objectives.

Though we encourage clients to consider mediation as an alternative to litigation, we recognize that it is not for everyone. In the mediation process, you work with a neutral third party to identify and implement solutions that are mutually beneficial. The mediator will not make decisions for you, will not consider legal arguments or rule on disputed facts. If you are unwilling or unable to speak up for yourself, are easily intimidated by your ex-spouse, or are too trusting, you are likely better off to have a lawyer represent you in litigation.
